Small beer

Compared to all that it had happened to him recently, this latest crisis seemed fairly small beer.

With a grain/pinch of salt

He seems confident, but you should take what he says with a grain of salt.

Sweet tooth

去看牙医,如果医生问你:“Do you have a sweet tooth?”

Turn the tables

You say your boyfriend's been cheating on you? Why don't you turn the tables on him and start going out with someone else.

spice things up

Instead of just buying Sam a birthday gift, let’s spice things up by taking him out for dinner.

cool as a cucumber

My friend is nervous about taking his driving test but I’m cool as a cucumber.

bring home the bacon

Ever since her father was injured, she’s been working two jobs to bring home the bacon.

not one's cup of tea

Camping is really not my cup of tea so I’m going to visit my friend in New York instead.

eat like a bird

所以eat like a bird意为吃的非常少。

例句:

Don’t trouble yourself cooking such a big meal. I eat like a bird.

eat like a horse

就是这样,eat like a horse说明吃的东西很多。

My mother has to cook a lot of food when my brother comes to visit. He eats like a horse.

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket!

Most people should think about getting a side job to bring in some income, because it is hard to know if or when you will be let go from your main job. If that happens, do not come back crying to me! I told you not to put all your eggs in one basket!

It’s no use crying over spilt milk!

The company wants us to try to fix all the problems that we have had with our new product, but I honestly think that it’s no use crying over spilt milk! We should just move on and work on our next product.

Too many cooks spoils the broth!

Some big, successful companies such as Google have teams of only a dozen people, maximum. They call this the “two pizza principle”, that teams should be able to be fed with just two pizzas. This is because too many cooks spoils the broth, and larger teams are very difficult to manage.

Half a loaf is better than none!

Our boss will get mad at you if you have not finished your project by the deadline, but at least you can show him the progress you have made. Half a loaf is better than none!
